Happy Halloween!!!

Happy Halloween and welcome to the new blog! Since today is my favorite holiday, it seemed like the perfect day to create my first blog post. I'm excited to provide updates on studio happenings and to share professional development and research that I'm working on to continue growing as a teacher!

We have had a super fun and spooky September and October here at Jane Marshall Music!

Throughout the summer and beginning of fall, 20 of my 31 students enthusiastically prepared spooky songs and piano pieces for our Haunting Melodies recital on October 6th.

On October 6th, we had the incredible privilege of performing at OtherWorld Theatre for the first time!

OtherWorld Theatre is a sci-fi -themed theatre in Wrigleyville and it is truly magical.

Our biggest recital to date, we ended up with around 80 audience members!

Students wore costumes and performed everything from Olivia Rodrigo's Vampire to Beethoven's Fur Elise. The recital ended with a candy buffet!

I dressed up as Red era Taylor Swift, of course.

Since we all had so much fun and grew so much through our preparation, I hope to make Haunting Melodies an annual tradition!

From October 24th to October 30th, all our of lessons have been spooky-themed! Students got to experiment with spooky sounds on my Yamaha keyboard, such as "pipe organ," "theatre organ," and "choir." Piano students got to play a couple of our favorite improvising games, Question and Answer (spooky version!) and 20-Second Song (spooky version!). Voice students learned "Have You Seen the Ghost of John" and played a pumpkin-passing game with the songs "Pumpkin Patch" and "Pass the Pumpkin."

I love giving my students little treats, so everyone got a goody bag for Halloween!

Today, the studio is closed because we all have some important Trick-or-Treating to do!

I hope everyone is ready to start the Winter Holiday music at our next lesson!!

Merry Halloween!!!

-Jane
