After nearly two years, Taylor Swift's historic Eras Tour has slipped away into a moment in time. Last night, December 8th, 2024, Taylor took her final bow in Vancouver, Canada.
Swiftie or not, no one can deny the enormous cultural impact of the Eras tour and the influence of Taylor Allison Swift
on the music industry and society.
In the Eras tour, Taylor revisited every chapter of her 20-year career, performing an unprecedented three-hour set that included over 40 songs.
Taylor broke record after record . She became the first female artist to gross over $1 billion in ticket sales for a single tour and boosted local economies with her massive fan-base traveling to see her perform. The Eras tour visited 51 cities in 22 countries across five continents.
Here at Jane Marshall Music, most of us are Swifites. Taylor is very special to us.
I am a millennial who has been a fan of Taylor's music since 2011 and consider myself something of a Taylor Swift scholar.
Part of the reason I became a music educator is because I love the power of music to bring people of all different backgrounds together. In my opinion, no one brings people together better than Taylor Swift. Multiple generations continue to find inspiration and joy in her songs from Debut to The Tortured Poets Department. Music from the beginning of Taylor's career in 2006 is still resonates with kids today and my young piano and voice students constantly request that we work on Taylor Swift songs.
My students and I have learned so much from Taylor Swift and her music. I have watched young students come out of their shells and start to discover the power of storytelling while working on "Love Story" or "You Belong with Me." I have seen young singers build incredible vocal technique and bring out their inner pop star while working on "Fearless" and "Enchanted." I have seen young pianists discover their joy and passion for playing while working on "Delicate" and "Champagne Problems."
After spending a year desperately trying to acquire a ticket for a USA show and not succeeding, an opportunity presented itself. On April 19th, while waiting for the midnight release of The Tortured Poets Department, I discovered something magical: round-trip plane ticket to Stockholm, Sweden, four nights in an AirBnb, and tickets to Eras on both Saturday and Sunday WERE ALTOGETHER CHEAPER THAN A SINGLE OBSTRUCTED VIEW RESALE TICKET IN THE USA.
As a music educator, I was so grateful to get the chance to see Taylor Swift perform in what was truly a historical event. Thousands of music fans from all over the world donned their sparkles and came together in the Friends Arena, we sang together, we all watched and listened to Taylor Swift with awe and adoration, and we all shared a transcendent experience that will live on in our memories for the rest of our lives.
Through the music by artists like our beloved Taylor Swift, I am so excited to continue helping students learn about music and about life, reach their full musical potential, develop confidence, and nurture a life-long love of music.
